WELCOME

I’m Miranda. A full blood small town Minnesotan, wife to my high school sweetheart (Tom), full time out-of-home working mama of three kids (Harper 5, Hannah 4, and Hank 2), a self diagnosed shop-a-holic and HUGE dreamer. We live 8 miles from our parents, my husband and I were neighbors growing up and we spend most of our days working, wrangling kids, cleaning up messes and talking about our dreams.

This blog is meant to be a friendly, simple, unapologetic reminder we are ALL human who make mistakes but we need to learn from them. I love listening to moms/friends chat about what happens when no ones watching and hearing their usually unspoken dreams. I want to teach my kids valuable life lessons and give them the tools to achieve their goals.

We all have dreams and need a little encouragement, advise or ability to vent about them. I have an amazing support system at home and with my close knit group of friends but sometimes complete strangers will give you a different prospective.

WHAT MAKES ME A MINNESOTAN MOM?

I not only a mom to my children but I’ve always been given the role of the “mom” or caretaker amongst my siblings, friends and most recently my teenage nieces. I also love Minnesota – I crave the chilly, cozy nights of winter just as much as the poolside barbecues in summer. The Fall leaves, apples orchards and spring rain showers are always welcomed too! I live for the four seasons – even the extremes, witnessing the changes is truly amazing, making this a great place to live and raise a family.

AND HERE IS A LITTLE MORE ABOUT MY LIFE

My husband and I both work hard and play harder. Good thing we have 10,000 lakes because we fish all year long in our boat during the summer – on the lake, the river or even on the pond in our backyard. We ice fish in the winter in an ice castle fish house – look them up they are amazing, basically a living room on ice!

We own some land in our rural metro suburb that we are still allowed to roam around in our 6 passenger UTV so summer evening rides through trails in our woods are routine.

My husband grow up working for his parents road construction company so he’s very resourceful on heavy machinery and recently started up his own company! (Yes, I still work full time…. for now)

Current Slightly Unfocused Obsession:

Helping Teens Plan for After High School BEFORE They Graduate

Why? Because I’ve succeeded a lot in life (not bragging) but I’ve had a normal somewhat boring experience my whole life. I always got good grades, had friends, was a good athlete, went to college, graduated, quickly landed a job then got married then had kids – orderly and unremarkable. My parents both worked hard, we were not wealthy but provided us with more than we needed, taught me and my siblings discipline and responsibility, they’ve stayed married and supported me EVERYTIME I needed it – orderly, forgettable and unremarkable.

I’ve never truly struggled with knowing how I fit into this world until now; now that I’m 30 and have a supportive husband, stable income, done having kids and have an opportunity to do more than just have a job – be unforgettable.

But I know this isn’t the norm since not everyone grows up with the same circumstances so that can’t be the only reason for my and so many other people’s success.

NOW, along comes my current subject that I’m “studying” – my nineteen year old niece. She’s a polite, somewhat shy, super compassionate girl experiencing anxiety about her future while living in my basement.

She graduated high school without a plan. Her parents divorced when she was 11; her mom’s boyfriend and his two kids moved into her house when she was 12; she began smoking pot at 14; her mom and dad both remarried when she was 16. Her entire senior year she was telling us she was going to attend a community college nearby, so when I started asking question She lied to all of us about going to school in fall of 2017

Horrible Habits…

Redbox… makes a lot of money off people like me, pretty sure I’ve never returned a movie. I hate cooking supper and grocery shopping is a lot of work with 3 toddlers in toe – so this Mom resorts to an old fav of mine – butter and jelly samich!
